What should I do if my steering wheel vibrates after new tires?
For larger and more aggressive tires, some vibration after installation can be normal. If you are experiencing a strong vibration or pull, check your lug nut torque and contact us if the issue persists.
Steering wheel vibration after new tires almost always points to a wheel balance issue on the front axle. Here is what to do:
- Return to the installer for rebalancing. Most shops will rebalance at no charge shortly after installation.
- Check tire pressure. Incorrect pressure can contribute to vibration. Verify both front tires are at the PSI shown on your door jamb sticker.
- Request road force balancing. If standard balancing does not resolve the issue, road force balancing checks for internal tire uniformity problems that regular spin balancing may miss.
- Inspect for damage. A bent wheel or a tire with an internal defect can also cause vibration that balancing alone cannot fully correct.
